If you have a neon sign, or several, for your business, you know they can be an effective way to draw attention. We can also use them as accent pieces within a place of business, or even in your home. Most people do not stop to think about what they need to do when they use these signs. As for neon signs, they are long-lasting and durable. It is wise to do some basic, simple maintenance to make sure that the signs can last for as long as possible. Keeping everything in good working order is quite simple.

Keep It Plugged In

You might think that it would be a smart idea to unplug your neon sign when the shop closes. You do not want to keep unplugging and plugging it into the outlet. The reason for this is that it will end up putting more stress and wear and tear on the sign. This is because you kept it on the entire time. Neon signs can last for decades without being turned off. Believe that the only time that you should unplug the neon light is when it is being cleaned and if it needs to be repaired.

Keep It Clean

One of the most critical things that you will want to do is make sure that you are keeping your neon signage clean. When neon signs are not clean and covered in dirt and grime. Whether they are inside or outside. It makes them seem duller. They are not as bright as they could be. The dust and dirt will be noticeable, too, which does not look right for your business sign. It is easy to clean.

First, you will want to unplug the sign. This is one of the few times that you should unplug it, as mentioned above. To remove the dust and dirt, you can use a soft cloth or a nylon brush. Small paintbrushes and cotton swabs can be a helpful way to remove some of the dust from tricky to reach areas. Regular dusting and cleaning are often enough to keep the sign looking great.

Some signs will end up accumulating more grime based on their location. For example, outdoor signs or those that are near a grill will get dirtier. For those difficult to clean neon signs, you can spray an ammonia-based cleaner onto a soft cloth and wipe down the sign. Then, spray a clean cloth with water and wipe it down again to remove the cleaner. Once it is dry, you can plug it back into the outlet, and it should look as good as ever.

Always make sure that you clean the neon sign often. You want to make sure that you do nothing that could damage the glass of the tubing. Clean your sign, and it can continue to look great for a long time.
